What does FES impact mean?

Physical impact:

The physical impact refers to the visible and tangible transformation in the living conditions of communities. This includes improving access to infrastructure, economic opportunities and meeting basic needs such as water, housing, health and education. A concrete example is a program that helps women rescued from sex trafficking to create small businesses and access resources to start their ventures. Those working on this program know that a woman rescued from sex trafficking needs a source of income to meet their basic needs. The Bible reminds us that sharing our blessings with others is an act of generosity that pleases God: "The generous will be blessed, because he shares his food with the poor" (Proverbs 22:9, NIV). By meeting physical needs, we not only improve the lives of others, but also allow our light to shine more strongly, bringing hope where there is despair.

Isaiah 58:10 offers a powerful promise about the impact of responding to the physical needs of communities: "If you share your bread with the hungry and satisfy the need of the afflicted, then your light will shine in darkness, and your darkness will be like noon" (NIV). By meeting tangible needs, we are fulfilling Christ's call to serve others.

Emotional impact:

Emotional well-being is key to a balanced and full life. Vulnerable communities often face traumas, losses and challenges that affect their emotional stability. An example of this is the weekly workshop for women rescued from sex trafficking, which supports them to overcome the emotional challenges, traumas and behaviors rooted during their time living in sex trafficking. Recognizing the need to heal these emotional wounds and to provide tools has been key to their being free from harmful behavioral and emotional tendencies. The Bible speaks of how God is close to people who suffer and have injuries: "The Lord is near to those who are broken in heart and saves those who are depressed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18, NIV). By creating safe spaces and providing tools to heal, we can help restore peace and self-esteem.

Philippians 4:6-7 invites us to entrust our emotional burdens to God: "Be not anxious for anything; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known before God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus" (NIV). Leaders can inspire communities to face their emotional challenges with this confidence, providing support and creating spaces where they can heal.

Spiritual impact:

Spiritual restoration is the heart of a lasting transformation. Leaders seeking an integral impact understand that, in addition to improving physical and emotional conditions, it is essential to reconnect people for their divine purpose. An example of this is the Bible study that helps women who have been freed from sex trafficking to discover who they are and what they were created for, bringing them back to God’s design for them. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "and plans for prosperity, not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV). By helping people discover their purpose, we give them a new reason to live and fight.

Matthew 5:16 calls us to be light to others: "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (NIV). By sharing the love and hope of Christ, we can bring a profound spiritual transformation to communities.

Romans 12:2 encourages us to a profound renewal: "Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your understanding, so that you may prove what is the good will of God, acceptable and perfect" (NIV). Spiritual transformation leaders seek to make people live according to God's will, discovering and fulfilling the purpose for which they were created.
