KPIs are not for large organizations only
Many leaders believe that measuring impact is complex, expensive or only for large NGOs.
But any organization — no matter its size — can create simple, practical, and transformative KPIs.
A KPI is just a clear way to answer:
How do we know if we're accomplishing what we said we'd do?
What a good KPI must have
An effective KPI is:
- simple: easy to measure and understand
- specific: applies to a specific programme
- useful: helps make decisions
- ethical: respect dignity and privacy
Types of KPIs that any NGO can use
1. Scope KPIs
How many people did you get?
Example: number of participants in workshops.
2. KPIs of change
What changed in people's lives.
Example: percentage of young people who improved school performance.
3. Quality KPIs
How well the show was delivered.
Example: satisfaction of participants.
4. Efficiency KPIs
How you use your resources.
Example: cost per participant.
How to create your first KPIs in 10 minutes
- Choose a specific program.
- He answers: “What do we want to change with this program?”
- Define 1 indicator for range and 1 for change.
- Sets a desired level (target).
- Decide how and when you will measure.
Start simple, you can expand it later.
